CANCER

All of my grandparents, other relatives, and a few friends have all succumbed to some form of cancer. Most of us know someone who has passed away from either breast, colon, prostate or another form of this dreaded disease. As a medical disease researcher, I have a passion for coming up with methods to relieve symptoms that are associated with this health problem. This section provides insight on abnormal cells, risks and also a case study ( testimonial ).

What is an abnormal cell?

A cancer is a cell that has lost its normal control mechanisms and thus has unregulated growth. Abnormal cells can develop from any tissue within any organ. As these cells grow and multiply, they form a mass of abnormal tissue that invades adjacent tissue and can spread ( metastasize ) around the body. These abnormal cells develop from normal cells in a complex process called transformation. Cancer R esources

The first step in the process is initiating in which a change in the cells genetic material primes the cell to become cancerous. The change in the cells genetic material is brought about by an agent called a carcinogen such as a chemical, virus, radiation, or sunlight. However, not all cells are equally susceptible to carcinogens. A genetic flow in the cell or another agent called a promoter, may make it more susceptible. Even chronic physical irritation may make cells more susceptible to becoming abnormal.

During the next step promotion, a cell that has been initiated becomes cancerous. Usually several factors including the combination of a susceptible cell and a carcinogen are needed to cause abnormal cells. What surprised me was that 15 to 20% of these abnormal cells are associated with an infection, for instance viruses with cervical cancer and helicobactor pylori with gastric cancer.

Steps You Can Take To Lower Risks Of Cancer

· ( Anti-cancer foods for preventing and treating of cancer ) healthy diet with few processed foods, and more vegetables, preferably organic. Reduce the amount of food cooked at very high temperatures. Try to maintain an appropriate body weight.

· Try to get a deep sleep at night, go to bed before 10:00 pm if possible

· Of course, reduce or eliminate smoking and excessive drinking

· Minimize toxins

*There are cancer fighting foods in the treatment of cancer

· Broccoli and Brussel sprouts maybe easier to swallow for us because of a chemical found in the vegetables that may impede the spread of breast cancer · cells. Scientists discovered a compound called sulforaphane that is found in both vegetables which hindered the growth of human breast cancer cells in the lab. Sulforaphane accomplished this by apparently disrupting the action of protein microtubules within the cells, which are vital for the success of cell division.

· In the past, data has suggested that sulforaphane’s role in preventing cancer was possibly due to its effects on detoxification enzymes that can defend against cancer promoting substances. An important study in rats showed that oral sulforaphane blocked the formation of breast tumors. Scientists have found that the chemical can push colon cancer cells to commit suicide.

· Also, high blood levels of iron coupled with high levels of very low density ( VLDL ) lipoprotein cholesterol appear to interact to increase the risk of cancer. As a result, iron and lipids combine to create oxidative stress, and oxidative stress has a role in the development of abnormal cells.

· It’s been thought that shark cartilage is an anti-cancer food for preventing and treating cancer. This treatment has yielded mixed results. It’s use is based on the belief that the reason sharks rarely develop cancer is because of their high cartilage content. In a few randomized trials, the outcomes of 89 patients with incurable breast or colon cancer who were treated with shark catilage or placebo in addition to standardized care and treatment with chemotherapy if appropriate.

· Next, the shark cartilage and placebo were supplied as a powder, mixed with water or juice, and consumed three to four times per day. As a result, there was no difference in overall survival between subjects drinking shark cartilage and drinking placebo. This is a breakthrough for us who tell cancer patients to take shark cartilage. At least now that money won’t be spent wastefully on shark cartilage.

· Furthermore, there’s a growing body of evidence linking increased night light to certain types of cancer, which has led researchers to suspect it could be connected to the steady increase in cases of childhood leukemia. A handful of scientists presented research at the First International Scientific Conference on Childhood Leukemia said that light at night and working shifts which disrupts the body’s internal clock, have been associated with a raised risk of breast and colorectal cancer.

· In addition, people who get whole body x-ray scans in the hope of finding tumors at their earliest stages may, ironically, be raising their overall risk of abnormal cells from the scans themselves could cause cancer. Only get whole body scans when they’re necessary ( physicals, serious pains somewhere ). More will be discussed on how to prevent and treat these abnormal cells based on trials and tests.

Cancer Causing Foods

· Red meat- especially if it’s well done, burnt or charred.

· Nitrites and nitrosamines-chemicals which are found in cold cut meats and preserved products. They can cause cancer of the colon and gastrointestinal tract.

· High animal fat and trans fat

· Alcohol

· Pesticides or chemically sprayed foods

· Junk food which contains high amounts of fat or empty calories

· Fried foods

Case Study

Tonya talked about how breast cancer runs in her family, and how several of her relatives have been stricken with it. She explained how some survived through it and others did not. Next, she came to the realization that she could be afflicted with it, and wanted to know what techniques could be implemented to thwart its course. Later on in this section certain potentially cancer preventable and treatable measures will be discussed.
