CANCER TUMOR INFO

CANCER TUMOR

In this section, my goal is to shed light on cancer tumors. In a recent study, researchers said that 1 out of 4 people would develop cancer in their lifetime. The reason for building this website is to help enlighten you and your family about their overall health. I have had numerous aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins pass away because of various health diseases including cancer. This section deals with what cancer is, the cause, and how long does it take for a cancerous tumor to grow?

What Is Cancer?

Cancer is the uncontrolled growth and spread (metastasize) of abnormal cells that may invade any tissue of the body. Occurring throughout the world stomach and lung cancer are the most prevalent for men. As for women, the most common are breast and cervical cancer. In addition, for both men and women the most common cancers are of the lung, stomach and colon. Another word for cancer is malignancy. Also, a cancerous growth or tumor is often referred to as a malignant growth or tumor.

Next, a growth or tumor that is non-malignant is referred to as benign. Benign tumors don’t spread or invade surrounding tissue and therefore aren’t cancerous. A tumor is a growth of tissue that forms an abnormal mass. Tumors generally provide no useful function and grow at the expense of healthy tissues. Some people think cancer is contagious but it isn’t. Cancers are named primarily based upon where they originated.

What Causes Cancer?

Cancer tumors are abnormal cells that grow, divide, invade and destroy normal tissue. The main cause for cells to become cancerous is from gene damage within the cell itself. There are a number of factors behind the gene damage here are a few:

Environmental- An example is smoking

Genetically- By hereditary genes being passed down

Carcinogenic agents probably cause a number of cancers. An example of carcinogenic agents is what we inhale, drink, and eat. There are over 200 different types of cancer that can occur anywhere in the body.

How Long Does It Take For A Cancer Tumor To Develop?

In many cases cancer takes many years to develop. The process usually starts with a problem in the DNA of a cell. The DNA is the genetic code that directs the life of a cell. A few things can create problems in the cell such as, lack of or too much vitamins and minerals, diet, certain chemicals, and exposure to the sun. Next, some cells will enter into dysplasia, which is a pre-cancerous phase. Luckily, we have immune system cancer tumor destroying cells that get rid of these pre-cancerous cells.

If the immune system cells are unable to destroy the pre-cancerous cells than a cancer will develop. Amazingly it can take up to 30 years for the whole process to produce symptoms of cancer. As more credible information is made available, I will update this page accordingly.
