HIGH CHOLESTEROL INFO
HIGH CHOLESTEROL
High cholesterol can be considered a nationwide health concern. At least half of the people being trained by me have elevated cholesterol LDL. It’s important that they exercise and eat healthy to put LDL levels in check. I’m also a medical disease researcher who is passionate about coming up with methods to prevent and relieve symptoms of elevated cholesterol. This section on elevated cholesterol covers the definition, conditions affecting the stomach and intestines, healthy cholesterol levels, foods high in cholesterol, case studies and more. There are links in place that will send you to more detailed topics such as; foods that are high in cholesterol, symptoms of high cholesterol and a sample diet for lowering cholesterol.
What Is Cholesterol?
· Fats ( also lipids) serve as a major source of fuel for the body’s metabolic processes. Fats are obtained from food or formed in the body, mostly in the liver, and can be stored in fat cells for future use.
· Fats are essential components of cell membranes. They make up elements of the myelin sheaths that surround nerve cells, and of bile.
· The two major fats in the blood are cholesterol and triglycerides. The fats attach themselves to certain proteins, so they can travel throughout the bloodstream. The combined fats and proteins are called liproteins.
· The major lipoproteins are called chylomicrons, very low density lipoproteins ( VLDL ), low density lipoproteins ( LDL ), and high density lipoproteins ( HDL ).
· HDL cholesterol is the good cholesterol while LDL cholesterol is called the bad cholesterol.
· Abnormal levels of fats circulating in the bloodstream, especially high cholesterol, can lead to long term problems. The risk of having atherosclerosis and coronary artery or carotid artery disease ( and therefore the risk of having a heart attack or stroke ) increases as a person’s total cholesterol level increases. Low cholesterol levels are therefore generally better than high cholesterol levels, although extremely low cholesterol levels may not be healthy either. A normal cholesterol level is 140- to 200 milligrams of cholesterol per deciliter of blood ( mg/dl ).
· The risk of heart attack more than doubles when the total cholesterol level approaches 300 mg/dl. Moreover, getting a cholesterol test every 3 years after age 45 is a great idea, particularly for those of us who are overweight or have a history of heart disease.
Foods That Are High In Cholesterol Or Cholesterol Food High In
· Donuts, cookies
· Lard
· Animal meats and fats
· A lot of fried foods cooked in animal fats
· Some processed foods
· Certain foods high in sugar
What Are Healthy Cholesterol Levels?
· Ideally, LDL cholesterol levels should be below 120 mg/dl ( the so called bad cholesterol ).
· The HDL cholesterol levels should be above 50 mg/dl. ( the so called good cholesterol )
· The HDL cholesterol level should account for more than 25% of the total cholesterol.
· The total cholesterol level maybe less important as a risk factor for heart disease or strokes than the total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol ratio.
· It’s uncertain whether high levels of triglycerides increase the risk of heart disease or stroke.
· Blood levels of triglycerides above 250 mg/dl are considered abnomal, but high levels don’t appear to uniformly increase the risk of artherosclerosis or coronary artery disease.
Choose A Low Cholesterol Diet
Diet can reduce cholesterol, more than most doctors realize. A diet rich in fatty fish may protect the heart and blood vessels by reducing inflammation, according to a handful of researchers. An important nugget that investigators found is individuals with the highest cell levels of Docosahexaenoic Acid ( DHA ), a type of omega- 3 fatty acid found in fish such as salmon and mackeral, had lower levels of c-reactive protein in their blood. C-reactive protein ( CRP ), a marker of blood vessel inflammation is associated with risk of heart disease.
Interestingly enough in a study of 28,000 women, levels of CRP were more accurate than levels than levels of bad cholesterol at predicting the risk of heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.
Exercise And Cholesterol
· Exercise can have a beneficial effect on lowering ( LDL ) levels.
· Being physically fit boosts levels of good HDL cholesterol.
· Also improves the removal of bad forms of cholesterol.
· Exercise can reduce cholesterol and levels of CRP-( C-reactive protein).
Eating Frequency And Cholesterol
Our cholesterol levels may depend not only on what we eat, but also how often, according to U.K researchers. The results found were that middle aged and older adults who ate frequently throughout the day had lower bad cholesterol levels compared with those who tended to down one or two large meals per day. This is all despite the fact that the frequent eaters, on average, had a higher calorie and fat intake.
Medications For High Cholesterol
Statin drugs do lower cholesterol levels and possibly reduce the rate of heart attacks. A great friend of mine, who I’ve trained for a year and a half has been on statin drugs for over 10 years. She said the drugs do control her cholesterol levels within the 140-200 milligram of cholesterol per deciliter of blood ( mg/dl ). But do statin drugs actually reduce mortality rates? In a new trial, the statin pravastatin ( Pravachol ) didn’t reduce the risk of death and heart disease in people with moderately high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
Side Effects Of Statins
· Damage to muscle tissue
· Harm to kidneys
· Elevated liver function tests
· Depletion of COQ10
· Slight damage to brain cells leading to mild impairment of mental function.
Symptoms Of High Cholesterol
There are rarely any hints that our cholesterol levels are too high ( other than a visit to the doctor to have them checked, or suddenly suffering from a condition or illness related to high cholesterol ). Xanthomas can be indications of high cholesterol levels, high triglyceride levels, lipid metabolism disorders, and can indicate a genetic predisposition to cholesterol problems.
Case Study
Before Ken implemented natural cholesterol lowering techniques that will be discussed later, he was on every low fat diet and cholesterol controlling pill imaginable, but nothing worked. Within approximetly 3 months his cholesterol levels went down into a normal range again. He also regained enough energy to go fishing and enjoy other activities. Now he wants to tell everyone about these techniques. Another study that was done included Maria who had 300 plus points. Maria could not believe that within 20 days her cholesterol went down 30 points. She wants more of these incredible products sent to her. find out more here.. This is an advertisement
